No, HE needs a lawyer.

He should plead NOT guilty, and speak to no one but his lawyer.

It is also best for all of you that you AVOID discussing any aspect of his case.

He will want to tell you his side.

You don't want to know, just say you wish him the best outcome possible.

You must tell him to speak ONLY to his lawyer.

For his sake, don't respond to anyone that he told you anything.

You best serve your son by not speaking to him or anyone about his case.

Once he pleads NOT guilty, he can ask the court if he qualifies for a public defender.

Good luck, and remember, MUM IS THE WORD.

Did you mean THC? If so, was this JUST marijuana? If so, marijuana is a totally different classification from other illegal drugs (it isn't nearly as bad). If it was a small quantity there are many ways good legal counsel can help to minimize the damage or even avoid conviction.

If you can afford it and choose to - yes. Or if he doesn't have the ability to afford a lawyer, he can apply for a public defender.

Literally anything could result from this.

No...not literally anything. The guy isn't going to get life in prison or the death penalty. :p

Well - actually there are people who have gotten life in prison for selling marijuana. Usually a specific group of people get those sentences though...so maybe the only thing not is death penalty.

Actually the chances of OP's son getting life in prison for paraphernalia and residue is about the same chance that I will vote for trump. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

I have a cousin.
He was convicted of possession back in 1963.
He got 40 years in a federal penitentiary.
He also received 20 years in a VA prison, but the feds incarcerated him.
His VA time was served consecutively.
The authorities found less than 1/2 an ounce in a garbage can on his rural home, way back in a "holler" deep in Appalachia's Blue Ridge.
I suspect today he'd have walked with probation.

Perhaps Leslie hopped in the DeLorean to find the punishment for misdemeanor possession?

:D

FYI: Leslie,,I'm just kidding and no nasty ill will is intended. As Jack and cbg will attest, I can be a bit of a wise azz. :)
