Frontier Justice by State-Employed Attorney

I had an unusual experience this afternoon that bothered me enough to create an account here and pick the community's collective brain.

On my way to my brother-in-law's house this afternoon, I accidentally drove the wrong way down a one-way street. To my knowledge, it's not clearly marked "one way" or "wrong way", but I could tell I made a mistake by the angle of the entrance to the neighborhood. Immediately upon entering the neighborhood, an unmarked truck that was facing the neighborhood entrance backed into the nearest driveway, and very quickly pulled out into the road, perpendicular to traffic, nearly causing us to have a collision (I hit my brakes with a couple feet to spare), and completely blocking off the neighborhood road in both directions. After about 5 seconds of him blocking the road, he rolled down his passenger window and began taking pictures of my vehicle. I rolled down my window and said "What's up?", and he said "You went the wrong way down the road! I'm reporting you to the sheriff!". I said "I'm sorry, I didn't realize I couldn't go that way down that road." He responded with "Too bad, buddy. The sheriff is already working on this and I'm turning you in!" I just said, "Ok." and waited until he moved his vehicle. For whatever it's worth, the entire time he was blocking the road was 30-45 seconds.

Once I got to my brother-in-law's, I told him what happened. He immediately pulled up their community Facebook page and showed me the guy. Apparently he has done similar things to this multiple times, and posts about it on that Facebook page. Then it clicked, and I asked him "Is this the same guy who stands at the end of his driveway with a radar gun clocking people/ shouting at speeders, and then posts pictures of them on Facebook?". It turns out it's the same guy. As you can imagine, his behavior has not been well received by people in the community.

If this were just a regular guy, I'd laugh and go on with my day. What really rubbed me the wrong way was finding out he's an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio. Maybe I'm completely off base, but it seems fundamentally wrong for someone in his position to be blocking the road to obstruct and take pictures of vehicles he feels are breaking the law. Playing vigilante is bad enough when it's normal person. It seems flat-out crazy when it's a person with a certain degree of influence doing it in his own community. I'm not sure how I'm going to proceed, but I'm curious to hear the opinions of this board on this situation.

If hundreds of complaints have been ignored, why would yours matter?

Nut balls are best avoided.

There's nothing more he can do to humiliate you.

You'll never be prosecuted, so live and enjoy your life.

Thank you for the prompt response. I appreciate your advice.

On a happier note, nutballs attend to attract jackballs, freaks, weirdoes, crackpots, criminally insane felons, and violent gang members.

When your nutball encounters one of the above, it'll be his Waterloo, Bunker Hill, or worse.

That will be the day you read about in a newspaper, or see on the local TV news, and you'll smile wryly, perhaps smirk; nevertheless you'll better understand how Karma works.

You can always complain about it to the state attorney general. If the state AG is sufficiently embarrassed by the activities of this attorney perhaps the AG will fire him. Or at least tell him to knock it off to avoid bringing potentially bad press on the office.

Since you were driving the wrong way why didn't you just make a U-turn and leave? Instead, it sounds like you continued driving the wrong way to your relative's house.

It's a single lane with a median on the right, curb/ grass on the left. Beyond it not being an option, U-turns are also illegal in Ohio. The only two options were to turn left into the neighborhood, or continue driving the wrong way into oncoming traffic. I chose the quickest and safest exit off the one-way. It wasn't until I had turned into the neighborhood and was back to legally driving the right way that he blocked my car. All that said, I'm not concerned about the traffic violation part of this story. I fully admit I made a mistake, and if I would have been ticketed, I would have accepted the standard $100-$200 first offense for driving the wrong way down a one-way. My issue with this situation is the non-law enforcement officer dangerously pulling out in front of me perpendicularly across the entire road, blocking my path while taking photos of my vehicle and threatening police action. Finding out he's a high-ranking state attorney who plays citizen police officer on regular basis compelled me to reach out to this board and see what law professionals thought about his behavior.

If this still sticks in your craw and waiting for Karma to kick in isn't a viable option for you, you could make an appointment to speak with the mayor, city councilperson, the entire city council, the sheriff or undersheriff, or the state AG to report the incident you endured, and inform each person about the myriad of encounters this nutball has initiated over the past year.

Apparently there is PROOF available on FakeBook about this FAKE law enforcement official doing his uncivic duties.
