Can someone help guide me in the right direction for finding out what the process is for evicting one or more family members from your home?

Basic Facts:

1. Mother-in-law has let two grandsons move in with her off and on for six plus years.
2. Grandsons are age 31 and 22.
3. Mother-in-law is single, widow, age 77
4. Grandsons do not and refuse to work
5. 31-year old has been a drug addict for 8 plus years and has been arrested numerous times for drugs, traffic violations, shop lifting, etc.
6. 21-year old has also had problems with drugs.
7. Both are verbally abusive and at times have been physically abusive to grandmother.
8. Both refuse to move out of the house. Grandmother is afraid to lock them out of the house because they have threatened and actually beaten the door open.
9. Grandsons have different mothers. Their father is deceased. The mothers refuse to help in any way.

What does or can the grandmother do to get these boys out of her house?

She should call the police and ask for help in getting both of them to leave.

If they are not on a lease, then she just needs to tell them they have 2 weeks to leave or the police are being called to help evict them.

No lease, no payment, they need to leave ASAP.

She should change the locks and if they attempt to break in, she needs to call the police and have restraining orders filed. Actually I would follow RO's on both asap if one or both have assaulted or threatened her in the past.

I would also seek the help of family members. Have them go over there and start packing their stuff up. If they start to get violent, call the police.

Agreed but this can get messy. She should provide notice of some sort. It is possible that the family members may have some protection of law and giving them 30 days notice to leave might be a good trigger point. She should provide notice via a certified method. And most of all, you NEED to check the laws in the jurisdiction as protection for squatters varies.
