i'm sorry...i just checked, and i was wrong the first time. he was here on a visa that allowed him to get his masters', and then work. as long as he was sponsored by an employer, his status was good. but once he was laid off, his status lapsed. he never got a green card. my mistake.
well, it's not quite that easy. He's been here for over 10 years, had a career but company tanked due to recession. He doesn't want to give up everything he has here. He knows it would be easier to just go back...but he's hoping there is some way.
