actually in my very illustrious HR career, I had to terminate an employee for doing this with workers, but not students.....Don't know why ANYONE would think this was a good idea for ANY reason.
"because I want to try to get her fired"
you have an ulterior motive....
"I state to the employee that I don't believe her, that this is too much she-said-she-said, and I already wrote her up without getting her side. "
You handled this 100% incorrectly
"My manager told me not to write her...
Have you considered maybe she's just applying what she was told by you and warning others because she got in trouble?
You seem to have one answer that you want....and you aren't getting that.....
I'm just going to say that I don't think you've gone about this in the right way and would definitely speak with your HR department before doing anything further.
I'm not seeing it unless your union is "in on" this favoritism. I think that is pretty much your only recourse and if they are unwilling to do much for you, I'm not seeing any other recourse. Maybe look at transferring back to your old department?
One thing a lot don't realize is that the employer most likely can give another reason as to why the other person WAS hired and often it has nothing to do with any protected characteristic, so it is VERY hard for these to survive and have enough evidence unless one can prove a pattern of...

what was this "injury"? Was it work related or related to some type of accident?
Sounds like they think they paid when another insurance should have covered.
You might need to explain a little more on exactly what wasn't covered and why.
(been in benefits for a long time, but never...

my son got pulled over last week in middle of nowhere TX by a state trooper and they were very cordial to him...helped he was driving a mini van with national park stickers all over...
In EVERY closing I've been at as either the seller or buyer (7 of them), I've always been told that the taxes are estimated and one side could possibly owe the other once the final annual bill came at the end of the year that was partially split between the seller and buyer. While generally...
Glad it's resolved, but I can tell you that IF you played the "sick" card, that it WOULD be remembered later on promotions, pay increases, next year's approval, etc. evn IF they had to approve it under the law.
