We contracted with a window company to install impact windows in our home in Tampa, Florida. There were 9 windows installed. One is a picture window (does not open). Five of the windows do not open all the way allowing egress in case of emergency, some only open about 8 1/2 inches. The county inspector has contacted the window company and told us the company agreed to send someone out to try to "adjust" the windows. There is supposed to be a lifetime, transferrable warranty on the windows. We have not yet heard from the window company (a large national company) about this and in fact were told by them that the windows were fine and they passed the county inspection (they did not). Hopefully, they will be able to fix the windows, but if not, what can we do? The inspector said that the windows should open at least as much as the ones they replaced (they do not) and that each bedroom should have at least one window that you can use as an exit in case of emergency (2 bedrooms do not). We are senior citizens and spent thousands on these windows and don't know what kind of recourse we have at this point.
