Writing true story - characters still alive

I am writing a screen play based on a true sporting event that took place in the 60's. Do I have to seek permission from the people involved in the team to write the story as some of them are still alive?

Also, am I permitted to use the club's name? Do you have to seek rights from the club to use their name and write about an event in their history?
