Hi my question is this...........if a married couple with children split, divorce, and some time after reconcile, can back pay of child support be forgiven, and how? If that couple remarried would it void the backpay owed? I hope someone can answer this and it help! Thank you.

If the arrearage is owed to the state because the custodial parent was on state assistance, then no, the arrearage cannot be forgiven for any reason. If the arrearage is owed only to the CP, then it can be forgiven. You will have to head back to court to do so.

One word of caution... Once it's forgiven, it will not be possible to get it back in the event that the reconciliation doesn't last.
