Would like to know if 3 Class I third degree assault charges will affect someones green card renewal? Their green card expires in 2010. Last assault charge in 2006. Served 3 months in county jail. Do not know dates of other assaults. What dates do green cards have month & year? When applying for renewal do they check history to find out these charges? Person is now 27 years old and female. Can they be deported? Has 3 children with U.S. citizen. They are not married.

The challenge with assault charges is that they may be considered a crime of "moral turpitude." These include the following generally, from what I have seen. However, there are cases that can make exceptions from lower crimes (e.g. domestic assault charges in Arizona have been held not to be CIMT crimes. The answer to your question is that nobody can say for sure here without knowing all the facts. However, this is something you cannot take lightly because it is an assault charge, not an e.g. speeding ticket.
