I bought a car from a friend and the cars transmission messes up a week later,who's responsible for fixing it,we didn't have any papers writing up for sold as is or warranty and the cars title is not yet in my name.

Private sales are always AS IS SALES, unless specified otherwise in WRITING.
He has your money, you have a bucket of rusty bolts.
Ask him to help fix it.
I'll lay you three to two his answer is, "it's your problem".
 
You should always have a used car checked out by a mechanic before buying it. Otherwise, it is generally bought as "buyer beware" (as is) & your problem.
