My roommate had the utilities in her name. She moved out and upon leaving she decided to take some of my things with her. The cost of the final utility bill is less than the amount of items that she took from me on her way out.
I received a letter from a lawyer that I owe her the money or I will be taken to small claims court.
Am i responsible for this amount of money when there is no written agreement that we would split utilities? I live in New York.
Also if she tries to make me pay, will an itemized list of things she took/owes me stand up in court against her utility bill?
