My jurisdiction is: Texas

I am from Texas. I am the custodial parent. This has nothing to do with the absent bio-father.

My 16 year old son wants to go live with his grandfather in the state of Louisiana. Do I need to give power of attorney to the grandfather so he can enroll the child in school and get medical attention? Or do I have to give guardianship? Honestly, I don't know the difference.

Or in this situation is it possible for me just to let him go? I don't know what I can/can't do.

where is Dad? You need dad's permission. Why shouldn't dad have a say on who gets guardianship of his son especially if the child is leaving the state?

Don't know where dad is other than somewhere in Texas. He has been absent in my son's entire life. No visits, no birthday cards, no Christmas presents and no phone calls. Only pays child support when the attorney general grabs his tax return.

This grandfather happens to be the biological father's family anyhow. Would that make a difference?
