In 1990s, my parents both passed away. They owed two apartments in their co-op apartment building. There mortgages were paid in full. I have been overseas until 2007.

If the monthly maintenance wasn't paid since they passed away, what would have happened to those apartments? Who would own them now? Am I entitled to any proceeds from the sale of those apartments if the shares were sold?

Your parents apparently had an "estate" and should have had a will and executor to make maintenance fee payments to coop and liquidate or maintain the assets of the estate.

You need an attorney to do search of ownership and deal with coop board on reclaiming ownership if that is possible.

The place to start is the probate court. You can get a copy of their files by mail for a small fee.
