A woman lives with her boyfriend in the home he owns for 3 1/2 years. There is no written agreement on cost sharing or how long she can stay in his home. She does not work, but was giving partial rent via social services for 2 1/2 yrs. She no longer qualifies for assistance and has not contributed for the last year. The relationship has ended and he wants her to leave immediatly. Does she have any rights? What is the best source for information/help for her; she is indigent and has no where to go. The relationship has become violent. Thank you?

The fact that she has, in the past, providing rent to the boyfriend implies a "tenancy at will"; in other words, she is a "month to month tenant". I've attached the steps to end such a tenancy in New York (New York City may vary a bit):

If the relationships has become violent, law enforcement can be contacted; however, they tend to avoid civil issues (i.e., the boyfriend kicking her out simply because the relationship is over and he wants her out immediately).
