Alcohol & Drugs: MIP, MIC, Intoxication What are my rights when being detained for public intox?

I was recently detained for public intoxication. The arresting officer did not give me any option of taking a field sobriety or breath-a-lizer test. Nor did he read me my rights. Is this legit? What are my rights when being detained for public intoxication?

I'm not so sure that an officer needs to give you a breathalizer test if you are so obviously intoxicated so as not to render the test moot, e.g. you reek and can't even stand up straight. I'm not sure that one needs explanation.
