Several years ago, shen my son was a junior in high school he purchased his first vehicle from a used car lot and since he was under age, my husband had to co-sign. After putting around $700 of his hard earned part-time money into bogus repairs on this lemon, it ending up needing over $2500 worth more of work to even run. He didn't want to put anymore money into this piece of trash so he decided to just let the car go back to the car lot and called them to come and get it. They reported this on his credit as a voluntary repo and now at 20 years old , this is keeping him from getting a new truck that he has worked so hard for. Is there any law stating that this cannot be reported to a credit bureau under a minor's name? Several small car lots have told us that this should not have been reported since he was minor. Can anyone help?
