Violent, non-paying lodger

In a week-to-week tenancy, with multiple lodgers in a landlord-occupied house, when a lodger fails to pay rent, is destructive (punches holes in the wall), and whose girlfriend stays frequently, must a landlord evict through the formal eviction proceedings, how much notice is required? And, can a protective order be given at the same time?
