Long story, however, my auto insurance lapsed on 7/12/09 and we totaled a vehicle in a single car/no injury accident on 7/15/09 (just my luck!).
I realize that there is no claim on the insurance company since I had none, however, we still owe $30,000 to the finance company for the vehicle and I don't have the money to pay them.
There was no police report or record of the accident except for the wrecker that picked up the vehicle.
I guess my questions are:
a) Should I call the finance company and negotiate for payment terms of the balance less scrap value of the car?
b) Just store the vehicle and continue to make payments?
c) Get a lawyer and let him/her sort it out?
Thanks for your advise and quick reply.

Yes you should call the finance co ASAP—they will force place insurance on the car and file a claim – this insurance will cost about 4-7k$
