Use of wheel boot on private property in NY, USA

In the State of New York, is it legal for an employer to use a wheel clamp (i.e. Denver boot) on your vehicle if you go the wrong way in their parking lot or park in an area designated for another shift? (The car would be booted until you had a one on one with the plant manager)
 
I certainly see why it would be a nuisance, but I don't see anything illegal about it.
If they refused to remove the boot upon your request then you might make a civil claim out of it, but nothing criminal.
