Unsure what to do

. ON MAY 21ST I WAS SITTING OUT FRONT WITH A FRIEND WHEN SOMEONE WALKED UP TO US AND BEGAN SHOOTING. I TOOK OFF RUNNING AND MY FRIEND ULTIMATELY DIED FROM HIS INJURIES.
I CANNOT GO AND APPLY FOR HELP AT SOCIAL SERVICES BECAUSE THE DETECTIVES WORKING THE CASE REFUSE TO GIVE ME MY BELONGINGS BACK. (SAYING THEY WILL HELP ME WHEN I HELP THEM) THEY DID GIVE ME MY PURSE AND WALLET BUT REFUSE TO GIVE MY SONS AND MINE SOCIAL SECURITY CARDS AND BIRTH CERTIFICATES WHICH ARE NEEDED TO APPLY FOR ANY TYPE OF ASSISTANCE, ALONG WITH ALLOT OF OTHER ITEMS MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO DO ANYTHING.
THE INCIDENT HAPPENED OUT FRONT OF MY HOUSE BUT MYTHE INSIDEOF MY HOUSE WAS TORN APART AND TRASHED, THEY EVEN TOOK PICTURES OUT OF MY OLD MILITARY PHOTOS AND A BGE BILL AND FINGERPRINTED A BOX OF CHICKEN MY SON WAS EATING, ALONG WITH MY LAPTOP, CAMERA, THE CLOTHES I WAS WEARING THAT WERE SAID TO BE RETURNED TO ME THE NEXT DAY AND VARIOUS OTHER ITEMS ALL OF WHICH ARE UNKNOWN TO ME SINCE THE EVIDENCE LIST WAS MISSING PAGES. tHESE ITEMS HAVE YET TO BE RETURNED TO ME EVEN THOUGH THE DETECTIVES HAVE MADE SEVERAL PROMISES AND SET DATES TO GIVE IT BACK
WHAT INFORMATION OR SO CALLED EVIDENCE CAN POSSIBLY BE GAINED FROM A BGE BILL OR FROM A DIGITAL CAMERA OR MY BIRTH CIRTIFICATE AND SOCIAL SECURITY CARD AND MY SONS SOCIAL SECURITY CARD, OR CHILD SUPPORT PAPERWORK? ALL OF WHICH WERE NOT IN PLAIN VIEW OR RETURNED TO ME YET. IT HAS BEEN ALMOST A MONTH AND STILL I GET NO ANSWERS OR MY SS CARDS.

tHEY HAVE LIED TO ME AND TO THE OTHER VICTIMS FAMILY TELLING HER THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE HER BELONGINGS WHEN THEY DO ( IT'S ON THE EVIDENCE LIST THEY GAVE ME). AND ALSO ALLOWED HER TO STEAL MAIL FROM MY MAILBOX WITHOUT ASKING ME IF I WANTED TO PRESS CHARGES EVEN THOUGH STEALING MAIL IS A FEDERAL OFFENSE. AND THEY HAVE LIED CONSTANTLY TO ME ABOUT EVERYTHING ALL THE WAY DOWN TO WHAT RIGHTS I HAVE AS FAR AS BEING ABLE TO MAKE A PHONE CALL OR ABLE TO LEAVE WHEN I WASN'T UNDER ARREST.
THEY TOLD ME MY BELONGINGS WOULD BE RETURNED TO ME ON THE 23RD OF MAY AND I STILLNOTHING. I HAVE CALLED TO SPEAK TO SUPERVISORS AND NO ONE RETURNS MY CALLS, THEY EVEN WENT SO FAR AS PUSHING MY COUSINS DOOR OPEN A WEEK AFTER THE INCIDENT WITH NO WARRANT( AFTER BEING TOLD NOT TO DO THAT SINCE SHE HAS BIPOLAR DISORDER AND IS MANIC DEPRESSANT) AND MADE ME GO TO TOWSON WITH THEM TOLD ME I COULD NOT USE THE PHONE BUT I WASN'T BEING CHARGED WITH ANYTHING. THAT RESULTED IN ME BEING TAKEN TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM WITH CHEST PAINS. THE DOCTORS SAID I WAS HAVING AN ANXIETY ATTACK AND GAVE ME ATIVAN ALONG WITH LORAZEPAM AND TRADOZONE TO TAKE HOME FOR DEPRESSION.
I THOUGHT THE PURPOSE OF THE POLICE WERE TO PROTECT AND SERVE NOT TO DESTROY AND TAKE. HOW DO I GET MY STUFF BACK?

There is clearly something that is underlying here... no need to get into that though.

Rather than making phone calls, make a personal appearance at the police department to speak with someone there (lieutenant or above). Make any complaints that you have in writing. Ask them about their formal process for this.

If you feel they searched your house unreasonably you can consult with a local attorney to see what might be done about that, and an attorney can probably get your property back to you quite quickly.

It is very possible that your entire house was considered a crime scene, and as such the police may have had reasonable access to your house.... but taking your documents that you have described does not make any sense unless there is a separate issue of possible false/forged documents or something of that sort.

Make a formal demand for your property and speak with a lawyer... you will get your things back- or at the least will get a better explanation than what you have so far.

Thank you mr moose. tried that today. Didn't work. They keep lying to me because they know I can't afford a lawyer. They told me today, they are not giving my stuff back. After I went to the clerk like they told me to do (over 25 min drive away) the clerk said search warrants and evidence lists aren't public record and she doesn't know why they would tell me that.
They also claimed to have called me back and my "mailbox was full". Not true. I have zero messages in my voicemail.
They said the gas and electric bill was to verify who lives in my house however the lease rental office could tell them that and they searched the house and threw everything all over so they knew for a fact I live alone with me son.
I've been staying with my mother because I'm afraid to be in that house, this AM it was broken into and my sons things were stolen over 500 dollars worth. they even left the stick they used to bust the window in my living room, when I called to tell them (police), along with the neighbor who lives two doors down and told me to come home my windows were busted and it sounded like someone is in there, they flat out told me no one had stolen anything, and threw the victims rights pamphlet at me and said here call your insurance company. (I didn't even have insurance)
When I call for a police escort to get items out of my house, they show up and leave before I can even get inside my car. I am just so tired of all this I told them today I would stay in the house and let whoever is trying to get me have me and then maybe they will be happy and help my mother out with the funeral.
Crisis unit was called and they told me to move it wasn't safe. But I can't do anything at all without my ss cards and birth cirtificate. I just give up.
I also told them the search warrant was supposed to specify specific locations and what exactly they were looking for and they said it wasn't and it didn't have to be signed, dated or anything else because judges don't like their names given out.
I just don't get it. I really give up I'm so depressed and stressed after my son't 5th grade graduation tomorrow I'm going straight to the VA hospital to be admitted. Atleast then I will be safe, get piece of mind and not halfway loosing my mind. Thank you for your help though. I really appreciate it.

If you have a victim's rights pamphlet then you should find some helpful numbers to call for assistance inside.
There still seems to be an underlying issue here.

Did you make a formal written complaint at the police station or talk with an internal affairs investigator? If not, go back and do that.

See if you can find an attorney that will give you a free consult... you might be able to find one by using the victim's rights info.

If you are still not satisfied, start writing letters and making phone calls to your state representative and contact the Attorney General's office.

Be prepared to give dates, any names that are known, and specific details- do not falsify any statement or your whole complaint will crumble.

It is very possible you have a legitimate complaint to make, but hard to say for sure without really knowing the circumstances and how things transpired. I understand your point of view, and am not saying that you are wrong... but sometimes things actually happen a little different and for reasons that might be unknown to you.

There is no telling what information the police have, or what authority they might have had to search your house. If there are any pending criminal charges against you or anyone else then you will get access to all that information in due time.
