Yesterday I received a phone call from an attorney's office saying my husband and I owed almost $14k for past due Maintance and Taxes on a Glen Ivy property in Hawaii. This was the first contact from anyone in almost 13 years regarding this property. We were told 13 years ago that Glen Ivy had oversold the property and had not recorded our deed. They offered us another property for ALOT more money, but said they would "take back" the timeshare we had and we would be clear of all obligations if we chose not to "upgrade." Our financial situation had changed, so we turned it back to Glen Ivy, who went bankrupt a year later. I have no documentation on any of this after 13 years. I checked the Bureau of Conveiance in Hawaii and we are listed as owners on the property.
Is there a Statue of Limitations for collections on this? What recourse do we have?
