How binding is a union contract? A situation has come up which the union contract clearly addresses. They (the union) are choosing to ignore the contract and essentially rewriting it to fit the situation. This contract was negotiated and approved in June of 2008.

A contract is a binding agreement. I don't know your situation. It's not unheard of for unions and people to break contracts they don't like and then compel someone like you to make them comply with their agreement, if that's what you're asking.
