International Issue UK Visa Category

Last year my husband's company prepared for us a visa to come to UK for working for them. It is an international company. Our visa is valid for two years, from 9.2008 to 9.2010.

But now in 10.2009 they decided to finish their contract with my husband. Therefor after cutting the contract Our visa may not valid any more.

The problem is we don't know which category our visa is and therefor we wonder what we should do for staying in UK. My question is if it is possible to find the category of our visa from the visa in our passport?

I don't know UK law. I know that in the US there is a short grace period to apply for a new visa and change status or you must depart the country (10 days if I recall.) I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't similar in the UK but hopefully someone else can confirm the actual law.
