My husband and his family came to the U.S. when he was just 2 or 3 years old. He has a permenant resident alien card and completed K-12 here in the U.S. We've been married for almost 10 years now and some of his family is telling him to get his citizenship.

Does he have to go through the same process as everyone else even though he's gone to school here and graduated? Also, doesn't being married to a U.S. citizen offer some benefits to this situation?

Thanks for your help!

Everyone is equal under the law. If he has had a GC for five years or more, he can apply for citizenship like any other green card holder. If married to a US citizen, you can apply after three years. But since he has had a GC for ever, he can apply now without needing spousal citizenship to reduce wait to three years.
