Trying to sell a car that apparently has a common law lien on it- what do I do?

I am trying to sell my car because I am moving. I am the only person registered on the title as far as I know. My parents originally bought the car and my dad has since informed me (after signing the title into my name) that he apparently has a "common law lien" on it and would require his signature (and his approval) to sell it. Now I have heard of a common law lien before but only for real estate property and that is the reason for my suspicions that he may be bending the truth to keep me from trying to sell it. So my question is if it is possible to put a common law lien on a vehicle that is paid for in full? And if it is possible how would I be able to get the lien removed?

The person placing the lien would need to file a release. It cannot be done without you having received notification of some sort.
