Theft from Walmart~

My 22 yr old daughter was arrested for theft of an item less that $100.00 at a Walmart store. This is her first offense. Just recently she received a letter from an attorney representing Walmart offering to settle for damages of $200.00. What does this mean? Has Walmart dropped the charges? Will she still have to appear in court? What would be the next step if she chooses to pay the damages.
