I live in an apartment with two other women. We are all in our 20's, and one of us wants to move out, and the other girl's boyfriend wants to move in instead. I asked the management if we could change the lease to his name, and they said that they have to check with the owners.
I am confused, because I thought that if somebody wanted to get out of a lease, if they found an acceptable, creditworthy replacement tenant, that a switch was possible. We can't sublet without their permission because it says so in the lease.
Can they actually refuse to let us change who's on the lease? If so, what can we do instead?
