Garden Gate Apartmens, owned by Mady Realty, Ltd., in Plano, Texas, is a corrupt business obviously fixed on treating their residents like low-life scum, and do so because they know most residents cannot afford to go anywhere else (section 8 property). I lived there for 5 months with my infant (not on section 8), and it was the LONGEST 5 months I have ever encountered. They signed a lease with me, then told me I couldn't move in, after cashing my deposit check. After contacting the owners they let me move into a different unit, but changed the apartment number three times. Upon moving in (move-in day), my apartment was occupied by housekeeping for two hours, delaying my movers and racking up a hefty bill. On top of that, the apartment had maintenance issues, which they never adressed, and in the following February, the heater went out, and emergency maintenance was unresponsive. It got down to 35 degrees in our apartment. As a result, my baby developed acute asthmatic bronchitis, and the only solution they offered was to replace a wire in the unit, take the air filter out, and despite my calls, not replace it for a whole week. Their excuse? The maintenance was unresponsive because the second property manager was fired, and they had to disconnect all of the pagers. Magically. Right. On top of all of this I came home to an eviction notice on my door, for 60 some odd dollars, for what I found out later, came from a water bill from previous residents in my unit, and had nothing to do with me. They over-charged for water, and on several occassions I asked for a number or address to whom it is that reads the water charges, and each time I was given a disconnected number, or a random number to some poor woman's cellphone/house phone...basically, made-up numbers. There is A LOT more to this, such as police called on neighbors above me many times, an un-kept property, safety issues neglected, the list goes on. And my biggest problem now is that they refuse to give me my deposit back, and worse they have sent a bogus $14, can you believe that, $14, to collections, and disregard their "Upon Move-Out Charges Agreement",which they made up, signed, and made me sign, and are cramming charges on me that do not apply to it. I have photos of the apartment and its immaculate condition when I left and I think they owe me my moving expenses, doctor bills, and quite frankly, the rent I wasted there. Anyone with advice on how I should clear this up, I appreciate you in advance.
