sue a cop?

i was beat by a cop for no reason i wanted to know if the law would allow me to sue and press charges against a cop?

And a good Civil Litigation Attorney. You can certainly "sue" a Law Enforcement Agency for Excessive Force.

Was there any witnesses? They will be important to your case.

You could sue the officer and the police department. The department may not be liable if it was clearly beyond police business and did not involve other officers, etc. but it is not out of the realm of possibility. There are other issues to consider though, such as whether the cop was reasonably justified in taking such physical force.
