I have a brother who lived in WV (now in Washington) that has commited fraud on my husband and I . We bought a piece of land in WV with the promise of my brother to build us a 3 bedroom, 2 bath home on the land . We gave him Certified Checks from our bank in the amount of $ 48,000.00 . He did not build us our home. Nor did he ever returned our money. He used our money to pay off his debts and was going through a divorce we did not know about at the time. We lived in MI when we gave him the certified checks - then moved to PA to stay with my father . After our money was gone and no home ; we sold the WV land and moved to NC . All this started / took place about 6 1/2 years ago. Is it too late to put a Lien on him or take him to court ? And will I need to obtain a lawyer that can practice law in both WV and NC ? Thank you for your help on this matter. I await your response on this matter.
