Scenario: Police issue a search warrant and find evidence. Suspect is brought to a police station for questioning. Police read Miranda Rights, but suspect chooses not to speak and requests a lawyer.

Question: If the evidence is incriminating enough, could the police arrest the suspect before a lawyer is contacted? What is standard procedure for placing the suspect under arrest at this point?

Yes, the police CAN arrest a suspect.

The standard for such an arrest related to the scenario you posed is reasonable suspicion to believe a crime was committed by the mythical character in your hypothetical.

I suggest you suggest to the mythical person to speak with a licensed criminal defense lawyer in his or her county IMMEDIATELY.

That way, if the person is arrested, his or her attorney could be contacted by the person's friends or relatives, if the person is unable to do so.

The procedure for arrest is simple.
Cops arrive, make contact with and identify the suspect.
Suspect is searched, handcuffed, informed of the charge(s), transported to jail, booked into jail, maybe allowed to post bond, and eventually sees a judge.

I suggest you also tell your pal to discuss the issue of bond with several, local bail bonding agencies.
