Sold my car to a friend, and he refuses to pay me.

I sold an old friend of mine a car about a year ago, we had verbally agreed on a month to month payment. But after 3 months of pay he refused to continue with the payments. I handed the pink slip over when I gave him the car since I trusted him, given that we have been close friends for years. He does not respond to my calls or texts about the payments, therefore he is hiding. On top of that I started receiving letters about tickets that he is getting on the car, since it's still under my name. I want him to pay all those fees and to finish paying me for the car itself. What legal action can I take?

Small claims court.
You might be on the hook for the tickets if you didn't notify DMV of the sale.
You should not have given title until the car was paid for.

You can check with DMV about a replacement title if he has not yet registered it. If you can get one you might be able to repo the car if you can find it.
