the first of December I will have only my social security checks. Can collection agencies for medical and credit card companies sue me?

Excluding the IRS - The real questions is. . .

"Once a creditor sues and gets a judgment, can the creditor garnish/levy my social security?"

The answer is. . .

"No, so long as the social security is not commingled with any other source of money."

Keep your social security payments in a separate bank account. NEVER, EVER add to the account from any other source. You can spend the money as you wish. You just cannot mix the social security with some other source.

If you are receiving the physical social security check I suggest you take a photocopy of it before you deposit it and make sure you deposit the entire amount. The better avenue is a direct deposit so there is no question as to the source of the funds sitting in the bank account. Get it?
