I was arrested for shoplifting at Walmart on May 23rd 2016.I was not told that I would be receiving a letter for restitution. I went to court and was put on 10 days house arrest and 6 months probation. I also paid a fine of $1,383 and am attending theft classes. I received the letter on June 2nd saying they wanted $200 in 30 days. I do not intend to pay a conglomerate like walmart $200. Do you think they will go to the trouble an expense to come from New York to Ohio to pursue it in court?

I suspect Walmart has lawyers in every state but, no, I don't think they would sue over it.

Besides, shoplifters pay those things to avoid criminal prosecution.

That you've already been convicted and punished indicates that you don't have anything to lose by ignoring it if your conviction didn't involve restitution.

However, I suggest you take a very close look at your sentence and your probation terms to make sure you aren't missing something.

No guarantees, though.
