I got charged for shoplifiting at Macy's. I was caught with $92 worth of jewellery still in my hand right out the sotre which i forgot to pay for as i was in a rush for the bus. i am certain that they have no video of me concealing any itmes. I had a bagpack and another one from Victoria's Secret. They found no unpaid items in my bags. I want to know what is the difference between getting the charges dismissed by pretrail diversion or by trial.

If you are found guilty at trial, you will have to go through an expensive process to expunge it from your record, but until it is expunged, you will have a criminal record. Through pretrial diversion, you will complete some requirements and come back to the court and they will dismiss the charges, so you will not have a criminal record at any point. They only go easy on you if it is your first offense, so be careful from now on so you don't get into trouble with the law again.
