Hi I'm an adult and I was caught shoplifting at a retail store. It was probably under $35. I was taken into a room at the back my picture taken and took my id and wrote down my details. I gave back the items and Also asked them to check my purse but they did not. No police was involved I was terrified and asked if they would send police later and they said they won't. They gave me a paper and he said if I don't receive a letter from them I should contact the 1800 number. I'm really terrified please help me I'm already very guilty so please spare the lecture.
I read that the letter is a civil demand. If I pay will it be over? How much is it usually?
Will they still call police or send me to court?
