A friend of mine was original charged with 24 charges of watching child porn, and then told 7 years in jail. He has never had any other criminal charge ever in his life and he also is a veteran. Today at his court case the charges were dropped to 4 charges and given 14 months in prison and have to register as a sex offender. I'm looking in the Florida Statue about him having to register and the way of removal, the thing is i can't find anything in the statue about removal or register as a sex offender for looking at child porn on the computer. Can someone give me some guidance of this issue and what covers the register or how to be removed by Florida Law, just trying to help out another soldier that put his life on the line for our country and made one mistake that he shouldn't have to pay for the rest of his life......

Does your friend have a lawyer he can talk to & ask any questions he might have?

Someone else may come along with some additional information for you.

Made one mistake? Hon, making a mistake is wearing odd socks in the morning. Watching the abuse of innocent children is not "making a mistake".

He will be registering for life, most likely.

And truly, your cavalier attitude towards this crime is disturbing. You do realize that he's actively supporting the rape and molestation of children...yes? You're okay with that?

His military service isn't going to help him.

Child molestation and child abuse are serious, deleterious issues that concern us all.

Your friend should make sure he understands the restrictions and sanctions that will follow him for the rest of his life.

If he makes more "mistakes" (to use your word), he'll have severe consequences to pay.

Thanks

I don't like the idea of anyone involved in the as you say supporting the rape and molestation of children, and i'm not ok with that. All i did was ask a question about what he did and was looking for some ideas of support for him and hope he moves on with his life in better means...The problem that we seem to have with society is when people make a mistake in life no one gives them a second chance....and my cavalier attitude towards crime....If you only understand crime itself....child porn is wrong to the max...its bad and no one needs it....but as i've dealt with many countries in my time in life not everyone is sentence to death for crimes....so if you think i support that then you need not reply back as all i was doing was asking a simple question...and just remember that could be anyone son that makes that big mistake in life...Thanks

You're not looking for him to be given a "second chance", though; you're looking for him to be given a free pass.

Given that the majority of the population finds such things making them ill, no, I don't think "anyone" is going to be making that "mistake", as you call it.

I seriously doubt he was charged with WATCHING child porn. More than likely he was convicted of possession of said porn.

What specific statute(s) has he been convicted of violating?

That being asked, kiddie porn is heinous and, yes, maybe even unforgiveable. 7 Years and registering as a sex offender is a very small price to pay for the horrors that his actions helped to support. SOMEONE suffered in order to make the movies that he watched to get his jollies. Molestation is a crime that one does not simply recover from! And, believe me, these children in these films ARE victims, they ARE molested, and many will commit suicide or fall into drug abuse or further degradation as a result of their victimization.

I'm glad that he served his country. But! That does NOT give him a pass to engage in the watching of kiddie porn and thus encouraging the continued victimization of children. It's foul, to the extreme.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. This is not a "big mistake". This is a deliberate act. One does not "accidentally" watch hours of child porn. One does not "accidentally" contribute to the evil that is child abuse. One does not "misunderstand" child porn.

The fact that he's a vet has absolutely meaning at all - if anything, it simply adds to the heinous nature of the crime. A soldier is often held to a higher standard.

I'm puzzled as to why you think he shouldn't be punished. Should Ted Bundy have been forgiven for killing the first victim? It was his first time, too.
