Second Mortgage appears shady

I bought my home in Dec of 05. I bought it using one of those "zero down" companies called Castle Rock. I have a 80/20 loan. 80 belongs to Chase now, that part is fine. It is the 20% through JJC Investors that is giving me cause to suspect. I became behind on that mortgage by a few months. I contacted them in June of 07 to make the account current. When I called, I got someones personal voicemail - it was a cell phone. I thought I had the wrong number. I called back again, and this time someone answered. I explained who I was and what I wanted to do. He told me I had the right number, and that he owned JJC and the office had moved. We agreed on the amount I owed, and I was going to drop it off. Over the phone, this guy could not pull my file, he kept referring to someone else. Eventually, I get the address to this new location.

It turns out to be the basement of this guys home. He and his wife proceed to tell me that he owns JJC and that he fired everyone because they weren't doing what needed to be done. His basement had the makings of a real estate office - the boards with addresses, the computer and files etc. I probed further - he tells me he sent out a letter to all of his property owners stating that the money paid would go toward the prinicipal so that we could pay it off faster. I told him I did not recieve it and asked for a copy. They could not find it. Instead, they wrote something up, no date, no letterhead and he signed it - genericly. I gave them a USPS money order in the amount I owed and asked for a reciept - again - generic receipt. I asked if they could show me they are handling my loan - they could not find anything anywhere and even asked me to figure out the program they were using. His wife told me that she was going to be getting things together and will send me a payment book and copies of my loan and what I owe in full in one - two weeks time. I asked for a business card - let me remind you he is owner of JJC - he hands me a Castle Rock buiness card. The 1800 number on the card and the car that happened to be parked outside is a number to obtain an 800 number for your business.

Castle rock is no longer at the location I went to when purchasing the home. JJC is no longer at the address I originally sent payments to. When I went to get caught up, it all looked suspicious. I still have the reciept, the generic letter and reciept. I have not made a payment to them since June because I am waiting on proof. I would think they would have sent me something for payment and they haven't even made phone contact, haven't come to my home, or sent any correspondance.

I want to know what I should be doing to rectify this. I can pay them thier money, but I'm not sure who I'm paying it to. Nothing is adding up. Whose court is the ball in - do I need to call them again asking for all this after I went and did all I had? Do I need an attorney? What about escrow? Any help that can be provided would be appreciated. I do not want a foreclosure, I make my payments to chase every month. I am just very nervous about this second mortgage and if there is anything I can do legally to rectify the situation.

Thank you in advance.
