Roomate moved to a different state

My roomate moved out of state after living out a month of our 12 month lease. Am I responsible for the full rent now that he is gone? Can I pay the landlord only my half witout penalty? We are both on the lease. Shouldn't he have some responsibility? Am I just stuck with the full amount because I'm not moving out as well? What do I do?

Unless there is a provision to the contrary in your lease, all co-signors are usually responsible for the full amount of rent.

Your recourse would be to sue your roommate and try to collect on a judgment if it is in your favor.
