revisit old topics with new attorney?

Husbands attorney has completely thrown child custody case away. He refuses to put his foot down or push for anything after tons of outragious actions by his ex wife, including taking child whenever she feels like it, taking them out of state on his weekend - also our wedding weekend. Changing all the school information and putting all her info where it asks for fathers (we are the childs residential parent) All our attorney has done is recommended him and his ex go to mediation. Everything his ex has told or promised him regaurding the kids, she has went back on and said she never said it. We cannot even trust her to make sure the kids that live with her eat supper, do their homework, and get to school on time. They ride the bus and already have 5 or 6 tardies. If we were to get a new attorney would we be able to visit subjects that were brought up in court but never settled - like her making the kids go by her maiden name, her using her married name illegaly - she had it legally changed to her maiden name, but now that he is remarried she's started using his name again - there's supervision issues in which children services were involved in. All of these were not settled. instead - the magistrate gave their dad physical custody of one the kids that asked to live with him and that was it. Such a mess!! we need guidance and advice desperatley!
