I have been fired from my job for petty theft, or at least I hope it is petty theft. I have stolen 70$ from my now former job. $10 one day, $20 a previous day and approxiamately $40 over the past year and a half. I'm am extremely frightened, as I am 23 years old. They claim possible outcomes could be the money docked from my last paycheck, or a visit to the local magistrate's office to pay off the theft and community service. They sat me in the office and grilled me for about 2 hours for this and what they claim to be my fault for the theft of some $6000 of merchandise which I have no understanding of or no association with. They had me sign a written statement to the above petty theft.
What should I do, any recommendations? Should I just plead guilty or hire an attorney to plead not guilty? What are the actual penalties for this?
