Can anyone tell me why a collection agency would use this instead of a civil case against me for a very old credit card debt? Thursday I have to appear for a pre-trial conference(I am from NY) and would appreciate any info or advice you may have for me. Maybe this is like arbitration, or mediation? I recieved what i thought was a summons from the lawyers representing the old credit card, but there was no state seal or court clerk signature on it so i am not sure it is even real. It advised me to send my answer to the plaintiff's attorney but no where did it say or direct me to answer to any court.
