hello.

i attended my friend's arraignment 10/21 the judge asked him if he would like a court appointed attorney. my friend said he was "working on one". he now has a "representation hearing" set for monday 10/26. his family is unable to hire a personal lawyer. what will happen at his next hearing and is it too late for him to ask for a public defender?

thanks very much

It is never too late to ask for a court appointed attorney. Call the clerk of court and tell them you need to file an application for a court appointed attorney and they will tell you how to do it. Do the application before your next hearing and the Judge will see that you are actively looking and will not be upset.
