rental obligations

I am a payee and have a client who's sister moved him out of his apartment claiming bed bug infestation. The landlord didn't have a chance to make a difference and wasn't even informed of the problem before the sister intervened. She is claiming that a lawyer told her that I didn't have to pay his rental obligation and that she could force him to break his lease. She is wanting me to pay her for him living with her. He has not expressed any desire except to tell me that his sister wants to talk to me. I do have written permission to speak with her, but she is not his legal guardian. Am I supposed to listen to her or follow what I have as a legal binding agreement for him to pay rent and give the landlord the opportunity to fix the problem?
