I was convicted of a petty theft charge more than a year ago. I paid for a fine and was on probation for a year. My court disposition says "Imposition of sentence postponed during the probation period", and does not specify any jail sentence in it.

This is my only conviction. In CA petty theft charge has maximal possible sentence of 6 months, so it looks like that petty offense exception applies to me. But what worries me is the "Imposition of sentence..." part in the court disposition. Does this imply anything that can result in immigration consequences? I'm planning to travel outside US sometime soon...

Also, does the petty offense exception apply to naturalization at all? Does expungement help with a citizenship application?

I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone has any information on this.
