Property Management filed for eviction

A family friend daughter had just moved into a apartment in July 2019 and signed a 1 year lease. Her mother was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer a few months later. The daughter decided it would be best she move back home to help her mother. They lived 2 hours away so traveling back/forth wasn't a good ideal. The daughter contacted the property management about getting out of the lease. The property management company found someone that would rent the apartment. Her mother was talking with the property management company at the time after they found someone to move in. Fast forward to today. Her dad was checking Indiana court cases about a seat belt ticket he had got. He decided to check out his daughters names on the court case site. He found that the daughter had a eviction notice that was just filed for that apartment. It listed her plus they assume the person that moved in. First, The lease was only a year lease. How can they renew the lease with her name on it since July 2020 was the end of her original lease? Who should she contact about this? Court? Property Management Co? Lawyer for the Property Management Co? Sadly, they lost their mother back in Sept 2020 so we can't ask her what she had worked out with the property management company. Any help would be great.

A landlord/tenant attorney would probably be the best bet.

Agree.... Yet sometimes it is a simple call to clear up a issue. At this point it is still in the infant stage. :)
If she has been SUED, then calling the attorney is not going to help her (unless she's calling to offer a reasonable settlement).

Daughter, who is presumably an adult, should visit the courthouse and get a copy of the file so she can figure out what's going on and what to do about it.

Then, SHE can come back here and talk to us about it.
