Is it legal to post someone's personal information (aliases, address, phone number, etc) on social media such as Facebook if the information can be obtained through a background check (such as one can purchase online)? I would think that most if not all of that could be found out via a search of public records anyway, if someone really wanted.

Something is only illegal when a court declares it to be so, after a trial or a plea. Until a court has spoken, it's the same thing as running a STOP sign when no law enforcement officer is there to observe it. It didn't happen.

However, the alleged victim is free to express his or her concerns to Facebook administrators.

Doxing is largely legal, but that does not mean that should any harm come about as a result of your behavior, you are without liability.

It's always best not to do it & risk causing yourself possible problems.
