Possible child endangerment?

Help! I allowed my 3 year old daugher to participate in a ballet recital. Parents were not allowed in the building during rehearsal, but we could wait outside and see the cast room through a window. We were promised, in writing, that our chidren would be cared for. There were 3 adults caring for about 15 children. After their rehearsal, my daughter walked out of the room, unnoticed by any of the adults. Fortunately, I saw her and intercepted her before she could wander off. She was in tears, and I spent about 10 minutes calming her down - still, none of the adults noticed her missing. When I brought her back into the cast room to let the woman in charge know what had happened, she shut the cast room door so my daughter could not leave, and then physically escorted me out of the building and locked the door, leaving me unable to get to my daughter, who was really upset. I was completely in shock, and had no way of entering the building to get my daughter. Although I don't know if I want to take legal action, what are my options? This woman held my child against her will and without my permission. Did this woman endanger my child or compromise her safety? Yes. What, if any. laws did she break? I need to report her to the city in which we take this class (the city contracts with the ballet studio) and need to have my facts straight. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I don't know if anything criminal was done, but I would stop all association with this company. You can complain to the city. I dont think that woman had any business locking you away from your daughter. Have you complaiend to the manager/owner of the company? You can try calling the DA to see if anything criminal was done.

Thank you for your response! I am in the process of composing a letter to the city. I will NEVER return to that studio. I did speak with the owner and made her aware of the situation. She was very apologetic, and was unaware of the situation. Unfortunately, it is the owner's mother who kept my 3 year old from me. I don't know if anything criminal was done, but I feel like she did take my child without my permission - which is definitely not okay. I am just sick thinking about what could have happened had I not been there to see my child leave the room.

I know how you feel. I have a 3 year old daughter too and your post makes me feel a little sick. I would be furious and out to kick someones butt if they EVER seperated me from my little girl. That person was completely unprofessional and I would have punched her if she physically laid a hand on me to keep me from getting to my child.

Believe me - I wanted to! This woman is mean and nasty to all parents, and should not in the service industry working with children. How dare she keep me from my child?
