Drug Crimes, Substance Abuse possession of suboxone

My son is in jail for wreckless driving - bail is $1000 and possession of suboxone - bail $1000. He has been there a week. I have not bailed him out because he has been in trouble before. He has a drug problem but has been clean for 6 months - although he is using suboxone. He had gone to the doctor and gotten a perscription but he couldn't afford it so he bought it from someone. Actually it was helping him stay clean. He has a job or at least had one. His next court date isn't until Jan 15th. Should I keep him in there, should I let him learn the hard way - How much jail time could he get?
