My son is away at college in North Carolina an he and three other guys where out side a house and each had an open can of beer in their hand. The police stopped and gave them all a ticket for possesion of a malt beverage 18B-302b. They appeared before the magistrate who informed them that this was a misdameanor and that most young adults do not get lawyers for this. She told them that they plead guilty and pay a fine and do community service and if they do this the charge will be expunged from their record. My son did not call me and tell me about this, I found out when I got a letter from an attorney seeking to do business by representing him. Should my son have a lawyer and be represented or should he do the said routine? Mom
